The province of Agrigento is located on the African Sea, in the Southwest of Sicily. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is particularly famous. It´s magnificent Greek temples were built alongside the town's southern walls and are well preserved today, earning them the accolade of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. In the Archaeological Museum, you can not only trace the development of vase art from the Stone Age to Antiquity, but also the death cult of the ancient Greeks and Romans. The ancient spa town of Sciacca is also worth a visit, as is the hinterland, including the enormous Bronze Age burial sites of Sant’Angelo Muxaro.
